From 27 to 30 May 2026, the Commander of the Multinational CIMIC Group, Colonel Piero Furlan, together with the Command Senior Enlisted Leader, Chief Warrant Officer Antonio Colia, took part in the Civilian-Military Humanitarian Symposium and Workshop held in Providence, Rhode Island, United States. The event was hosted at Brown University’s Watson School of International and Public Affairs and organised in cooperation with the United States Naval War College, UNOCHA and the World Food Programme (WFP). The opening symposium, held on 27 May, was structured around three main panels focusing on Human Security, Training and Simulation, and Policy. The following days were dedicated to workshop activities, during which participants were divided into working groups addressing key topics such as civil-military implications of population movement, humanitarian access and protection of civilians. Due to his extensive operational and doctrinal experience, Colonel Furlan was invited to moderate the working group dedicated to the civil-military implications of population movement. He also provided a valuable contribution through a lecture on the topic, offering an in-depth perspective on NATO doctrine and sharing field lessons learned from the Eastern flank. Chief Warrant Officer Antonio Colia took part in the Protection of Civilians working group. During the breakout sessions, he also presented the Multinational CIMIC Group’s approach to Analysis and Assessment, explaining to interested participants one of the posters prepared by the MNCG A&A Section and displayed in the hall of the Watson School. The event represented an important opportunity to share experiences with a broad audience of high-level professionals from different sectors involved in civil-military coordination. It also highlighted the key role played by the Multinational CIMIC Group within the international community in the field of civil-military cooperation.
