Advanced training at Multinational CIMIC Group

Motta di Livenza, October 23, 2018.

The Tactical CIMIC Operators course was completed today in Motta di Livenza at the "Mario Fiore" barracks, headquarters of the Multinational CIMIC Group (MNCG). MNCG is a Combined / Joint Unit of the Italian Army and a specialized "hub" for the civil-military cooperation (CIMIC).

Main objective of the course is to provide students with the know-how and skills to carry out tasks in the field of civil - military cooperation which encompasses a thorough interaction with military, civil, governmental and non-governmental actors. The course saw the participation of 37 students from the Armed Forces of Italy, UK and US.

At present, this is a unique course in the NATO training offer for CIMIC operators at the tactical level. It includes a high ratio of "hands on" training, role plays and orienteering activities in addition to indoor classes. Participants are requested to put into practice the mediation techniques and other skills learned during classes and to operate under stress conditions in a simulated operational scenario.

The two week long "CIMIC Tactical Operator Course" is held entirely in English language. During this iteration, resident instructors from Multinational CIMIC Group were supported by external instructors and civilian academics. Several CIMIC operators are currently deployed to areas of crisis where the Italian Army operates.

This is a great advantage for MNCG training programs and activities, since instructors and students benefit from a constant update from the field: this virtuous cycle results in the best correspondence between the training offer and the live performances required of CIMIC operators during their tours of duty in operations.

Thus, the learning process is constantly updated and tailored to be in line with to complex and evolving operational scenarios. Other than Italy, contributing nations to the Multinational CIMIC Group include Greece, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia and Hungary. Multinational CIMIC Group is currently included in the NATO Response Force, a Multinational basket of Forces with a high level of readiness that NATO can deploy swiftly at any necessary location.
