17th CIMIC UNIT COMMANDERS' CONFERENCE
Important NATO event to discuss the evolution of Civil Military Cooperation (CIMIC) in complex and changed international scenarios.
Motta di Livenza (TV), 29 May 2024. The 17th edition of the NATO CIMIC units Commanders Conference (CUCC) took place in Treviso, at the BHR Congress Centre. The CUCC is an annual event organized by the Multinational CIMIC Group on behalf of the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers in Europe.
The conference gives the commanders of NATO CIMIC units the opportunity to meet and share their operational experiences and lessons identified and learned while operating on the ground. This year's four-day conference focused on the analysis of possible NATO CIMIC activities within allied territory in the event of invocation of the Article 5 of the Washington Treaty. The Commander of the Multinational CIMIC GROUP, Col. Ugo Proietto, said that nowadays it is not possible to reach any military objectives without a thorough understanding of the civil environment reducing the impact of military activities on the civilian population and vice versa.
Very fruitful discussions were also held over the relations between the resilience of a NATO country and its level of civil preparedness. This is a topic which NATO is committedly developing given the ever-increasing importance of resilience in the current strategic scenarios.
The CUCC was also an opportunity to broaden and strengthen personal and professional ties between representatives of the NATO CIMIC community.
