COMPLETED: THE 16th CIMIC UNITS COMMANDERS' CONFERENCE (CUCC).

The 16th edition of the CIMIC Units Commanders' Conference, a prestigious event organized by the Multinational CIMIC Group, delegated by the Supreme HQs Allied Powers of Europe (SHAPE), ended today at "Palazzo Foscolo" in Oderzo .

The topic of the conference was "Human Security in Operations (HSIO) and its implications in Collective Defense from the CIMIC point of view".

The purpose of the event was to provide a comprehensive approach of Human Security in a context of classic warfare. This in order to allow Commanders to understand the actions to be taken when dealing with Non-Military Actors.

In addition to the speakers of the Multinational CIMIC Group and NATO, representatives of local authorities, International and Non-International Organizations and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) took part in the conference.

During his opening speech, the Commander of the Multinational CIMIC Group, Colonel Ugo Proietto, underlined the importance of CIMIC as a fundamental pillar in NATO's operational framework to bridge the gap between military forces and the civilian population, ensuring that conduct in operations is guided by respect for human rights, cultural knowledge of the civil environment and coordination with the main players in the operating environment in order to guarantee Human Security.

The 16th CUCC represented an important stage for the further development of Human Security in the context of NATO Operations in the light of the ever-increasing geopolitical and military challenges that will involve the countries and the Armed Forces of the Atlantic Alliance.
