44th Coordinating Committee: Participating Nations Review MNCG Priorities and Future Development

Motta di Livenza, Italy – 1 October 2026 – The Multinational CIMIC Group (MNCG) hosted its 44th Coordinating Committee at the “Mario Fiore” Barracks in Motta di Livenza, bringing together representatives of the Participating Nations to review the Unit’s activities and share priorities for the coming months. The meeting was chaired by Brigadier General Cornel-Traian SCURT, Romanian Army, Chairman of the MNCG Coordinating Committee.

During the meeting, Colonel Piero Furlan, Commander of the Multinational CIMIC Group, presented to the Participating Nations the main results achieved during the recent period and outlined the priorities that will guide the Unit’s forthcoming activities. Discussions focused on capability development, training, operational readiness and the continued adaptation of MNCG to the evolving operational environment in order to fulfil the Alliance requirements. One of the updates addressed the evolution of the CIMIC doctrinal framework, with particular attention to maintaining coherence between NATO doctrine, tactical procedures and the collective defence imperative. Discussions also highlighted the need to ensure that CIMIC capabilities remain effective across the continuum of competition, supporting the integration of civil factors into military planning and operations.

The Participating Nations also reviewed the development and readiness of MNCG deployable CIMIC capabilities, together with upcoming training and evaluation activities. In this context, multinational exercises and training opportunities provide the best way for testing common procedures, strengthening coordination and enhancing interoperability. The Coordinating Committee also provided an opportunity to link these developments with the broader dialogue within the NATO CIMIC community. Initiatives such as the recent CIMIC Units Commanders’ Conference (CUCC) contribute to the exchange of experience, dialogue among different levels of command and the identification of common requirements for the continued development of the CIMIC function.

Looking ahead, the Participating Nations discussed MNCG’s training programme and future multinational activities, including Adaptive Interaction 2026, as part of the broader effort to prepare CIMIC capabilities for collective-defence scenarios and maintain coherence with NATO planning. The 44th Coordinating Committee provided the Participating Nations with a shared overview of the current development of the Multinational CIMIC Group and the priorities to be addressed during the next phase.

At the conclusion of the meeting, Brigadier General Cornel-Traian SCURT handed over the chairmanship of the MNCG Coordinating Committee to Brigadier General Dean Groff, Slovenian Armed Forces, who will serve as the new Chairman.
